This really did seem like it would be Sasha Banks' day, didn't it?

After taking the first shot at Charlotte at the Royal Rumble, she lit a fuse that seemed primed to run out at 'Mania. This was further reinforced as other Divas got title shots during the Road to WrestleMania, as thought the big match (and presumed title change) was being kept dry for the biggest event of all.

Now, setting aside Sasha Banks' massive popularity and championship-level talent, it was also entirely possible that WWE might try putting over Becky Lynch. She's also very popular, and has been in the title picture longer.

One way or another, between the odds of a triple threat match, the crowd-pleasing potential and the traditional turning of the worm, Charlotte definitely seemed set to be dethroned in Dallas.

In retrospect, had we not underestimated WWE's habit of wearing out their own tricks, we might have foreseen that Ric Flair would be the difference-maker.

Again.
