Wrestling's 10 Most Embarrassing Music Gimmicks

3. Rockabilly

The Honky Tonk Man was an outstanding Intercontinental Champion. Maybe even the best of all time. But let's face it, his Elvis Impersonator schtick never should have worked as well as it did. The character's longevity in the WWE is a testament to the talent and workmanship of Wayne Farris.

So while it was a nice idea to bring The Honkster back in 1997 to have him pass the torch to "the next great Intercontinental Champion", having him endorse a watered-down version of his own bad gimmick wasn't the way to go with it. In Honky Tonk's own words, "It was not good for either one of us".

Also not good was the awkward shimmying Rockabilly tried to incorporate into his matches, looking for all the word like an uneven washing machine stuck on spin cycle.

It was obvious from the get-go that no one's heart was in this. A poorly repurposed gimmick like this one doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in a wrestler, and Rockabilly was doomed to get, at best, massive indifference from the audience.
