6. El Santo

El Santo El Santo is one of the biggest names in masked wrestling, and while he hasn't had the same level on mainstream success as some other masked wrestlers, he is known as one of the pioneers of masked wrestling to the fact where "El Santo" (the saint) was only seen in public without his mask on one occasion, and that was when he removed his mask while appearing on a Mexican television show enough to reveal his face. Unfortunately, El Santo died a week after the television event of a heart attack. El Santa was certainly one of the greats, and while he never truly managed to have success in any American companies, he was a 3 time world champion, 7 time Mexican champion and two time tag team champion in Mexico. On top of this, El Santo also had an incredible record in Lucha de Apuestas matches with a 36-0 record. El Santo was adored by his Mexican fans and his funeral was one of the biggest funerals in Mexican history with friends, family and fans alike looking see the popular figure in his mask one last time.
