5. The Higher Power
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyQnlYAP9F8 Some of the angles on this list started out as intriguing. To cut a long story sort, in late 1998 the Undertaker turned into an evil, power hungry character, which for a short time the WWE tried to say was the gimmick meeting real life, and Mark Callaway had gone mad. The 'Ministry of Darkness' was formed, and he systematically recruiting his followers, or 'Acolytes'. He feuded with Kane and Steve Austin, but alluded to there being a 'Higher Power' that he was working for. This led to many great angles on TV and much speculation amongst fans as to who this new character would be. Would it be a new wrestler to the WWE to feud with Steve Austin? Would it be, as many people thought, Jake 'the snake' Roberts, to play off their King of the Ring match a couple of years before? Whatever the result, at least it would create a fresh new min-event rivalry, right? Wrong. To effectively stick it to fans and show them they didn't know as much as they thought they did, in June 1999 Vince McMahon revealed himself to be the 'Higher Power'. Fans around the world groaned their disapproval. Fans in the arena booed - not because Vince was a 'heel' but because they were expecting a reveal of more thought. Something so promising delivered, in the end, so little.
