They paved the way for his return at the No Way Out pay-per-view in February, 2003. There was a lot of jockeying for position, and threats of firing, between Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon. In the end, Jim Ross intervened, saying that he had procured Austin's return, with the promise that he'd face Eric Bischoff at No Way Out. Before Austin could come out, Bischoff took to the microphone, asking Stone Cold for a reprieve. He suggested that they forfeit the match, just as the sound of glass shattering heralded the long-awaited return of Steve Austin. The Bell Centre in Montreal goes bananas! "AND BY GOD THERE HE IS! THE TOUGHEST SONOFABITCH IN WWE IS AT NO WAY OUT!" Cue shot of Eric Bischoff looking like he defecated in his little karate suit. What a huge, deafening reaction from this crowd, and Jim Ross's reaction follows suit.
