4. Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D13QJX-6esg In the summer of 2002, Steve Austin walked away from WWE due to irreconcilable differences. They paved the way for his return at the No Way Out pay-per-view in February, 2003. There was a lot of jockeying for position, and threats of firing, between Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon. In the end, Jim Ross intervened, saying that he had procured Austin's return, with the promise that he'd face Eric Bischoff at No Way Out. Before Austin could come out, Bischoff took to the microphone, asking Stone Cold for a reprieve. He suggested that they forfeit the match, just as the sound of glass shattering heralded the long-awaited return of Steve Austin. The Bell Centre in Montreal goes bananas! "AND BY GOD THERE HE IS! THE TOUGHEST SONOFABITCH IN WWE IS AT NO WAY OUT!" Cue shot of Eric Bischoff looking like he defecated in his little karate suit. What a huge, deafening reaction from this crowd, and Jim Ross's reaction follows suit. Not only is he trying to put over how big this gesture is, Stone Cold returning to face Bischoff, but he is also personally invested in this moment. He and Steve Austin are good friends, they even co-wrote Austin's biography, and Austin credits Ross for talking him into this return. It is a genuine moment being played out for the sake of a great story. Bischoff makes one last attempt to settle the fight amicably, but Austin pounces. Bischoff doesn't stand a chance, between Stone Cold's tenacity and the rabid fans cheering for their returning hero. They go wild when Austin grabs a fan's drink and throws it in Bischoff's face, and wilder still when Austin keeps breaking the count on his own pinfall, just to tease Bischoff. Rising above the din of the screaming crowd is the voice of good ol' JR, "Bischoff's trying to run like a little scalded dog... Austin's giving the Raw General Manager a night that he will never forget for as long as he lives!" Three Stone Cold Stunners later, Austin finally makes the pin, prompting JR to rise from his chair at the announce table, pronouncing this a "Texas-sized ass-whippin'!" and reciting the memorable "Stone Cold! Stone Cold! Stone Cold!" Lawler tries to calm him down, but JR's not having it, and turns to grab Jonathan Coachman beside him. He can't contain himself! Austin doles out another Stunner for good measure, and a curtain call after his initial exit. You can't get much bigger, and thank goodness JR was there to call it. "THIS IS A MOMENT. THIS IS A MOMENT, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. LOOK AT IT. FEEL IT. EXPERIENCE IT! STONE COLD IS BACK, AND HE JUST WHIPPED BISCHOFF'S ASS LIKE A GOVERNMENT MULE!"
