WWE: 10 Most Extreme ECW Matches

9. Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Psicosis -- November 2 Remember, November 18, 1995

From one extreme to another, Rey Misterio Jr. and Psicosis' Mexican Death Match at November 2 Remember was as good as extreme lucha libre gets. Both Mexican stars from the AAA promotion, Misterio and Psicosis were longtime nemesis, and this classic encounter took their feud to the next level -- to the extreme, if you will. The rules of a Mexican Death Match are simple: after a wrestler is pinned or submits, he has a 10 count to answer the bell. Before the match even begins, Misterio -- nowadays, a huge favourite among kids in WWE -- flips Psicosis the bird. "Now that's extreme!" screams Joey Styles. Kicking off with a fast and furious pace, Misterio hurricaranas Psicosis to the outside of the ring in the first minute, taking the action out to the floor. But Psicosis retaliates with a full-on assault that includes a devastating dropkick from the top rope, followed by a dazzling moonsault for the three-count. After a pin, Misterio barely makes the 10 count, and the match has only just begun. Misterio is clearly in dire straits as Psicosis dominates with a powerbomb, along with an impressive one-and-a-half inverted moonsault into a sentai, landing right on Rey's face. Misterio shows tremendous endurance and intestinal fortitude, absorbing numerous dropkicks to the chest, a DDT onto a chair, and another moonsault from Psicosis. Several three-counts are made, but somehow, someway, Misterio keeps managing to get to his feet -- barely. Eventually, the unrelenting attacks from Psicosis seem to bring out the fight in Misterio who comes back with a chair to the face and a high cross body that sends both athletes crashing into the front row. Misterio gets back on the ring apron and delivers a breathtaking sling shot moonsault plancha to Psicosis into a sea of ECW fans chanting "E-C-Dub! E-C-Dub!" They battle their way to the far corners of the arena as Misterio is now on the attack, chasing Psicosis up the bleachers. Amazingly, Misterio delivers a hurricarana off a highly elevated stage that leaves Psicosis battered, beaten, pinned, and unable to make the 10 count. Extreme resiliency is what Rey Misterio, then just 20 years old, showed the ECW fans in this hardcore luche libre extravaganza.
