2. Chris Benoit
He may have had almost zero charisma, hence one of his nick names being Silent but violent but theres no denying that Chris Benoit was one of the most technically gifted wrestlers of all time. During the time period known as the Attitude Era there really werent that many old school style wrestlers. The age of the mat technician was well and truly gone, and in its stead was the rise of hardcore, blood and puppies. Chris Benoit was perhaps the last of his kind. A wrestler who was a wrestler. Nothing more, and no gimmicks. From his hard hitting matches with the likes of Finlay, Steve Regal and Triple H to his technical masterpieces with Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels, when The Crippler set foot in the squared circle you were guaranteed a competitive and convincing wrestling match. Bret Hart has described his Owen Hart tribute match from WCW Nitro against Benoit as one of the greatest of his career. With Brets career coming to an abrupt end a few months later we were lucky to see the two great technical wrestlers have the few matches they did in WCW. The world wasnt so lucky with seeing another highly anticipated Benoit match as he never made his scheduled match with CM Punk, in what would have surely be a classic bout for the vacant ECW World Championship at Vengeance 2007. Instead of facing Punk and becoming the first man to ever hold World Championships from WCW, WWE and ECW brands something went terribly wrong in the Benoit household which resulted in Benoit murdering his wife and child before committing suicide. Many wrestlers have died, with several having committed suicide and still having their achievements and legacies remain intact. Benoit may be one of the greatest technical wrestlers of all time, but that legacy will not be remembered as it will of the others on this list due to the circumstances of his final days.
