WWE: 10 Iconic Alliances That Should Be Reinvented For 2014
10. The Fabulous Freebirds (1979-1994)
No, your eyes don't deceive you on this list entry: the Fabulous Freebirds, in one incarnation or another, treated the world to its Southern Pride style of Rock 'n Rasslin' for nearly 15 years. Original members, Michael P.S. Hayes, Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy, and Buddy Roberts formed the unusual three-man group in 1979 and were joined years later by Gorgeous Jimmy "Jam" Garvin during their final run in World Championship Wrestling. The Freebirds were wildly popular, especially in southern-based promotions such as WCW, World Class Championship Wrestling, and Georgia Championship Wrestling. The threesome/foursome enjoyed nearly unheard-of success within the ranks of tag-team wrestling, amassing a mind boggling 27 title reigns throughout the 1980s and 90s. Hayes and Gordy were ranked as the 3rd greatest tag-team of all-time by Pro Wrestling Illustrated in 2003 trailing only The Steiner Brothers and The Legion of Doom. Curiously, The Fabulous Freebirds have not yet been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, either collectively or individually, despite possessing these clear HOF-worthy credentials. 2014 Proposed Update - The Fabulous 3Birds The most obvious threesome to carry on the tradition of the Fabulous Freebirds is the team of 3MB ... Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal, and Drew McIntyre. They've already done their own successful imitation in 2013 as The Fabulous 3Birds, and Slater continues to mimic Michael Hayes with his unique southern in-ring persona.
