WWE: 10 Longest Tenured Employees

10. Michael Cole

Michael ColeWWE Tenure: 16+ years If you watched Michael Cole as a backstage interviewer in 1997, you probably would have never guessed that he'd still be employed in 2014. Even more shocking would be finding out that he was the lead announcer on Raw. When he started, he was just an awkward, mediocre announcer who didn't seem to fit in. Early in his career, he had his big break when he briefly hosted Raw alongside Jim Ross and Kevin Kelly. It wasn't a good pairing. Unfortunately for Cole and Kelly, they were replaced with Jerry Lawler. After this, Cole started taking on backstage interviews, and is probably most well known during this time for being made fun of by The Rock. Eventually, Cole started to put on some weight, stopped dyeing his hair and became more of a legitimate announcer when he teamed up with Tazz on SmackDown. After switching places with Ross a few years later, we were about to get a Cole overload. He turned heel, and was soon hosting Raw, SmackDown and NXT. Finally, he turned into a normal commentator and has remained in that role to this day. But why has Cole stuck around so long? It's possible that Vince McMahon likes him so much, because he serves as his own mouth piece. Vince talks to all of the announcers through the headset during a broadcast, and feeds Cole many of his lines. When Cole pushes the WWE Network or laughs at a terrible joke, you can guess that it's all coming from the boss. And if Vince likes him, Cole will be the voice of the company until he wants someone younger and better looking to take over.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
