WWE: 10 Most Memorable Piper's Pit Moments

3. Cyndi Lauper

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTOTop3At1c Piper's controversial interviews weren't saved for just members of the WWF Roster. On this episode in 1984, Roddy finally welcomed pop superstar (at the time) Cyndi Lauper onto the show claiming he'd been trying to have her on for ages but "time after time" she didn't show. After revealing he always gets what he wants, Cyndi joined Roddy on set to a big ovation from the audience. Roddy faked nice with Cyndi to begin with, asking her about her tour and telling her that they are both the best at what they do. After feigning more niceties in asking about her hair and telling her how good she looked, Piper then turned on the controversy, bringing up Captain Lou and referring to him as Cyndi's manager. Cyndi was quick to correct him in that Captain Lou is good to her but has never been her manager. Roddy was quick to jump on her, asking her if she was trying to make a liar out of Lou. Piper maintained that Lou had brought her up from nothing to be a star, which brought the Captain himself to the scene. At first, he seemed to be maintaining damage control, trying to get Cyndi to cover up for his lies about making her a superstar. Lauper laughed at the start, thinking that Albano was playing some sort of TV prank on her. As he blabbed on however, his claims started to get more and more outlandish saying that he wrote all her hits and eventually got out of hand when she realised he wasn't fooling around. After telling her to shut up, Lou went into a rant against all women, saying they should be staying in the kitchen and making babies. When Captain Lou called her a "broad," Cyndi lost her temper and flipped a table over. As Piper and Albano continued to berate her, she started wailing away on Captain Lou with her purse causing her actual managers to jump in and calm the chaos. It was a great way to introduce a non-wrestler to the product and to Lauper's credit she played her part remarkably, being believable the whole time. At a time when insider knowledge of the business was limited, Piper again managed to successfully blur the lines between scripted and real happenings.
