WWE: 10 Men Most Likely To End Daniel Bryan's Title Reign
6. Randy Orton
We've been through the unlikely candidates, the part timers and the prodigal sons, and now we can begin to get a little more realistic. Randy Orton spent the majority of 2013 as the Authority's champion. Essentially, he was a placeholder for them, a tool of their storyline rather than having his own real motivation or character. As a result of this shortcoming, Orton was by far and away the least interesting part of the whole storyline, and any time the angle drifted away from Bryan so that Orton could face John Cena or The Big Show, the whole thing fell flat. Almost anybody would have made for a more interesting champion than Randy Orton during that time. Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying Randy Orton isn't a draw, because he can be. It's just that he was booked in the most inconsequential way for months. He wasn't the adversary, Triple H and the Authority was. To put the situation in another light, I'll give you an example. Did you go and see Thor when that came out? Well, in this situation, Daniel Bryan is Thor, the Authority is Loki, and Orton is the big metal robot thing with fire instead of a facial expression. Since 2014 began, however, Orton has shown signs of his own motivations. He had a petty back and forth with Batista going in the run up to Wrestlemania, and Triple H wasn't exactly his bosom buddy going in either. He has a rematch clause, let's not forget that either. Once Evolution's feud with The Shield has run it's course, I expect to see Randy back in the title hunt. We'll just pray it's more entertaining than it was last year.
Stephen Maher has been a rock star, a bouncer, a banker and a busker on various streets in various countries. He's hung out with Robert Plant, he was at Nelson Mandela's birthday and he's swapped stories with prostitutes and crack addicts. He once performed at a Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras by accident. These days, he passes the time by writing about music, wrestling, games and other forms of nerdery. And he rarely drinks the blood of the innocent.
