5. Stone Cold Steve Austin
Whereas Rhodes captured the life of a common man, CM Punk depended on attitude and Randy Savage exuded personality, Stone Cold Steve Austin obtained all these traits but with the volume turned to the last and it created one of the most aggressive and enthralling characters to have ever stepped foot inside a wrestling ring. Austin 3:16 captured the hearts of wrestling fans during the boom period of the late 1990's and it's no wonder why. "You thump your bible, and you say your prayers and it didn't get you anywhere! Talk about your psalms, talk about John 3:16... Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!" "Austin 3:16" ultimately became one of the most popular catchphrase's in wrestling history while that promo is recognized as one of the greatest of all-time. Steve didn't speak in an eloquent tone or use well versed language such as Nick Bockwinkel, instead he spoke in a Southern tone and routinely swore or made vulgar references and gestures. Fans held onto "The Texas Rattlesnake's" every word and this worked superbly in Austin's favor. Steve is considered the main reason Monday Night Raw battled back in the ratings against Monday Night Nitro, and behind the eventual demise of his former employers World Championship Wrestling - who had fired him six years previous over the phone because he didn't have enough "marketability."
