Just like Kamala The Ugandan Giant, Saba Simba also hailed from a tribe in Uganda, it appears that those in charge of developing the talent pool in the WWE, spent a lot of their time scouting out talented wrestlers in the East African country. Or alternatively decided the idea of a tribesman from Uganda was such a brilliant gimmick, that they created two different characters with similar backgrounds; picking out two black American men to fill the roles. The man behind the silly looking, over the top, lion-tribal outfit; was Tony Atlas. Atlas had recently held both the Intercontinental title and World Tag Team Title belts. Everybody knew who he was, and nobody was fooled by his controversial gimmick. Imagine bringing Shelton Benjamin back with a similar Ugandan gimmick; the fans were patronised, annoyed and very offended. Atlas recently stated that the Saba Simba character saved his life; sharing personal details about how he was homeless and living in a park, when McMahon pitched the idea of returning with the new gimmick. Perhaps the role did end the man's rut, but it sure as hell cost him his dignity. If you enjoyed the list and would like instant updates of future articles follow my Twitter page @Dragonstravel.
