WWE: 10 Perfect Matches You Could Describe As 'Art'

10. Rey Mysterio Jr. vs Eddie Guerrero €“ Halloween Havoc '97

Two of the greatest cruiserweight wrestlers clashed in this match from WCW's Halloween pay per view. A lot of things in wrestling signify importance, and this match involved two. The luchador mask, popularised by wrestlers in Mexico is a tradition, as it is a source of pride, honour and mystique for wrestlers and an art form in itself. In this match Rey Mysterio Jr. puts it on the line so he can claim something equally important to him, the Cruiserweight Championship. A majestic, high velocity match up where neither men misses a step. Both men execute high flying maneuvers that are reminiscent of circus acrobatics while combining this with a story and with the aggression and intensity of pro wrestling. The story of the match revolves around Guerrero's despicable antics, not respecting the mask of Rey Mysterio Jr. as he tries to tear it off. Guerrero gets more and more desperate while Mysterio's proves his heart to eventually pull of one of his spectacular do or die moves to capture the title. The commentators are also able to add a layer of characterization to each wrestler, giving insights into their recent actions, motivations and history. Both men interact seamlessly together, like two great dancers would. Eddie and Mysterio both have great poise and grace and perform each move seamlessly with each other. Like a lot of great art, these two and a lot of their peers wouldn't get the credit or breaks they deserved as the NWO (New World Order) angle would take over WCW television and the cruiserweights were never given the full credit they deserved but this match stands as a testament to the athleticism and acrobatics involved in professional wrestling.
