WWE: 10 Perfect Matches You Could Describe As 'Art'

9. The Ultimate Warrior vs Randy Savage €“ Wrestlemania VII

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sILwsHGaFbM A 'Career Ending' match at Wrestlemania VII involved two larger that life superstars. The match is famous for many things, and perhaps what happens after is more famous but this still remains an integral part in why wrestling is an art form. The contest grabs you in your gut and never lets go. In a heated build up the WWF Champion Ultimate Warrior would not grant Savage a title shot so Savage interferes in Warrior's Championship match, at the Royal Rumble costing him the title by smashing him in the head with a sceptre. In the match (and after) there is genuine emotion and electricity within the crowd. The crowd interactions are phenomenal and the fact that wrestling is able to create emotional investment in people who are pretending to hurt each other is incredible. These two wrestlers were two of the WWF's most popular performers and held the crowd in the palm of their hand during the match. During the bout Savage realises that he can't beat the Warrior, and his arrogance and stupidity eventually cost him his career. However, he is humbled after his former manager Elizabeth comes to his aid to fend off an attack from his current manager Sensational Sherri. The reunion between the two ignites the crowd in rapture. It managed to convey a message of hope after everything is lost and that you a never truly defeated if someone still loves you. The crowd who booed Savage as he entered the arena 30 minutes before now cried while he embraced Elizabeth. Wrestling's ability to convey emotion and present complex characters is theatre at its finest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fm_Piz7O2E0
