WWE: 10 Perfect Matches You Could Describe As 'Art'
6. Kenta Kobashi vs Samoa Joe Joe vs Kobashi 2005
Ring Of Honor proved that you don't have to be the most famous or successful to create the best art. Sometimes the best art can be seen only by a small number of people and sometimes it is something truly magical. Such is the case of Kenta Kobashi vs Samoa Joe. Much like in a painting every brush stroke is important. Whereas here, every punch, every kick every move is designed to elicit a response and just as important as the next. The grit and determination displayed by these two men is phenomenal. The so called Japanese Strong Style blurred the lines of how much wrestlers were hurting for their matches. Just how real could pro wrestling get? Is the art of pro wrestling to feel pain or to pretend to feel pain? Or both? It was a tough and intense physical encounter and an iconic moment in the history of Ring Of Honor. Both Samoa Joe and Kenta Kobashi had certain aura's about themselves. They were portrayed as larger than life, tough, imposing and dominant men and the two meeting was a dream match up for wrestling fans so ROH knew they were creating something special when they booked it. It wasn't until after the bell rang at the end of the match that fans would find out just how special it was. The match received many accolades and was many wrestling critics' match of the year, but the only thing that matters about it was it's simplicity. It was quite simply a match that had the story of who was the better man.
I mostly write about wrestling and sometimes music when I'm not serving people coffee. I also have a blog http://thesunsetflip.tumblr.com/ and am on twitter @kideternity2013
