WWE: 10 Perfect Matches You Could Describe As 'Art'
5. CM Punk vs John Cena Money In The Bank 2011
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JazCKp_6beo The match was not only special because of the storyline but because of the crowd. Wrestling is interactive art, the performers are performing but so are the crowd. The crowd have roles, to boo and cheer for who they hate and like respectively. The crowd and audience play a pivotal role as there isn't many other art forms where there crowd are vocal and are given free reign to interact with performers. Audience reception has always been pivotal in art, but it's rare that the audience become an intengral part of it during the process. Whether or not it happens frequently the audience have the power to change something the dislike by being vocal about it. It's this power and freedom of expression that the audience share with the performers which make wrestling truly unique. The match which took place in Punk's hometown of Chicago was based around the crowd and the hometown hero winning the WWE Championship on the night his contract ran out. The crowd took what would have been a special match regardless because of the situation and the mix of real life into storylines and elevated it to art through their reactions and engagement with the performers.
I mostly write about wrestling and sometimes music when I'm not serving people coffee. I also have a blog http://thesunsetflip.tumblr.com/ and am on twitter @kideternity2013
