1. A Precedent For The Future
People may whinge and whine about Batista coming back to wrestle for two years, but Chris Jericho and RVD are doing exactly the same thing- albeit for different periods of time. The WWE is obviously willing to re-enlist star talent that has proven that they can do what it takes in the ring in order to ensure that the money continues to go in the coffers and the product they produce is as good as it can be.
Contracts like the three men mentioned above may be the way of the future for many WWE superstars who want to look beyond the horizons of the wrestling industry as they move towards their 40s. CM Punk has often claimed that he has other passions to pursue besides wrestling, could we see the Best in the World take a sabbatical for a couple of years before returning for this sort of contract? Is Goldust a good example of a wrestler who's career has hit a second wind because he was able to move away from the wrestling business for a little while, thus giving his character, his craft as well as his enthusiasm for the business some new momentum? And thanks to a newly flexible contract, Brock Lesnar has returned to the WWE to wreak havoc as we move towards Wrestlemania 30. There are still 'lifers' in the WWE, but there are also those who see a life beyond the WWE. It makes sense that should these guys ever be open to a return that the WWE would be willing to listen. The business is all the better for it.
