Yes, I know that recently this has involved unfortunate home videos and arm-wrestling crack addled Mayors but no wrestler has done more for mainstream attention than Hogan. Yes, The Rock is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood now but for years he rejected his past and was Dwayne Johnson. In a way, this was the right decision because it made him a star in his own right. Hogans mainstream work though has always been linked to the fact that he is a wrestler. We can start with Rocky III but then there are the cartoon series, the adverts, the television interviews, the cameos on programmes and the films. Wrestling became as big as it was because of Hogan and the work he did outside of the ring and this alone should be celebrated as we head towards WrestleMania 30. The kids loved him so when their hero said drink your milk and take your vitamins then they did. Granted, the films werent great. No Holds Barred is a camp classic like Over the Top now is. Suburban Commando and Mr Nanny were better known for poor box-office and his later work has been a series of cameos BUT he has always been Hogan. This is primarily because Terry can only play Hulk but also because what better way to build up attention for your company, and for yourself, than by always being, well, you?
