WWE: 10 Reasons John Cena Is At A Career Low Point Right Now
6. He Has No Obvious Future Opponents
There is only so much value in rematches, what really drives WWE business is 'first time ever' matches. It's like any form of entertainment, you don't want to watch repeats of what you've already seen, you would much prefer new content. The problem for someone like John Cena is he has worked with just about everyone on the WWE roster. He could dip down to the midcard and get some matches out of the likes of Cesaro but that's kind of what he has done the last few months with Bray and it has only served to dilute his character. Cena should be in big match main events to maximise his brand value... but unfortunately the well is running dry. Fresh main events for Cena are out of stock. His only option for a return to the main event scene would be high profile rematches, which are unlikely to top the original efforts of past years. In this respect Cena's star is descending, the law of diminishing returns is in effect. He has hit that career point where there just isn't that much left to do. Beyond a rematch with Daniel Bryan for the WWE title what else do you really see Cena doing this next year?
