WWE: 10 Reasons A Live Smackdown Will Be Infinitely More Interesting
8. Potential Run-over
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBpMMdxMGRo One of the great aspects of Raw is that it isn't necessarily restricted to its time-slot. A majority of the time the show goes on for up to ten minutes after its scheduled end time. This is especially important because timing issues with live television can be difficult. Segments can run longer than anticipated leaving less time for other segments or forcing the main event to be shortened. If Smackdown were to go live, it is very likely that the network would allow for run-overs to occur. The extra time allows for the final segment or match to go as long as needed because the show wouldn't have to end at a certain time. Run-overs also makes Smackdown feel more like a sporting event because it's not restricted by time. The 3/17 edition of Raw had an 18-minute run-over. The segment started extremely late in the show yet they were able to accomplish all that they needed. A little extra time goes a long way toward generating the heat necessary to keep an angle red hot, run-overs allow for such a thing.
