8. Storylines And Character Development
Team Hell No essentially brought about the advent of tag teams moving away from stagnant non-characters where nothing meaningful ever happened to proper storylines each week. We hadn't seen this since ShowMiz and JeriShow (not to mention DX being about again). Rhodes Brothers' partnership came about from the Corporate Authority storyline where Cody was sacked and Goldust came out of semi-retirement to compete for Cody's job. Goldust put on a match with Randy Orton which was apparently applauded in the back by the other superstars it was superb. Finally Cody Rhodes was relevant, and Goldust came back better than ever to win the championships in a very emotional and powerful manner. Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow had a barnstorming break-up from Team Rhodes Scholars when Sandow cheated Cody out of the Money in the Bank briefcase. The scenes of Cody throwing Sandow's briefcase into the sea outside the stadium was comedy gold (although my personal favourite moment from that episode was when Sandow was searching for Cody in the back... only to go past Sin Cara rooting through the arena bins randomly!). Character development and storylines just helps the division out massively. Why do we care about these people? Why should we root for them? What are their individual motivations?
