3. Dolph Ziggler
Original Gimmick: Billy Gunn Before Dolph Ziggler, Nick Nemeth was given the roles of a golf caddy and a cheerleader; probably two of the least intimidating professions a wrestler could possible mimic. So when offered the role of a PG Mr. Ass, Ziggler was probably just grateful that he wasn't being asked to be a ballerina. As it turned out, the gimmick actually really suited the Show Off. His new character echoed Billy Gunns look, he had the same wavy bleach blonde hair, white boots and very similar pink trunks. Ziggler also adopting Gunns conceited swagger and would shake his ass at the crowd in a similar way to the Mr. Ass character. Dolph has also incorporated much of Gunns in ring style into his own act; including Billys trademark finisher move, the Fame Asser.
Both Gunn and Ziggler are extremely talented wrestlers that have unfortunately been overlooked by the WWE, for some strange reason. The pair have both been used for their exceptional selling ability, spending most of their career going over for other competitors and helping to spiral them into the main event picture. In 2012, Dolph Ziggler labelled Billy Gunn as his choice for the most underrated wrestler of all time on WWE.com.
