WWE: 10 Superstars Who Could Never Let Wrestling Go
7. Sgt. Slaughter
Sarge is in for a slightly different reason. He doesn't wrestle on a regular basis. He doesn't always put himself in the spotlight, or ask to be shown on TV on a consistent basis. But when he does he is ruining his reputation. Some of you reading this might not realise that in the early 1980's Slaughter was renowned for having great brawling matches (including one memorable one at Madison Square Garden) and was arguably only behind Hogan in terms of popularity in the WWF. He held titles in many promotions and had many well known feuds (both good ad bad). But now every time he steps onto our screens he diminishes his glory days bit by bit. He wrestled in WWE as recently as December 2012, and last month was a guest referee, as voted by the fans on Old School Raw. Although he has had the sense to pull back the amount of time he spends in the ring, he is willing to allow the fans memory of his wrestling to be chipped away bit by bit.
I am a teacher, but also write about all things wrestling. I have been writing/interviewing wrestling personalities for over 7 years for both the Wrestling Observer site, as well as The History Of WWE site.
