WWE: 10 Superstars You Won't Believe Vince McMahon Gave Contracts To

2. Marty Jannetty

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tBn1QtyEXM Fool me once, shame on you, fool me five times, shame on Marty Jannetty. Jannetty was a solid, yet unspectacular singles wrestler in the WWF for a few years in the 90s. But it was his earlier work with Shawn Michaels in The Rockers that brought him his fame. Much like his partner, he had his share of personal problems outside of the ring, but his were even worse. His troubles with substance abuse and the law were so bad that it got to the point that the WWF had no choice but to let him go. Despite screwing up repeatedly, the company brought him back on a couple of occasions in hopes that he could engage in a big feud with his former tag partner. Sadly, Jannetty just couldn't keep his act together and was released from the company a couple more times. Years later, after a lackluster run in WCW, and then time out of the spotlight altogether, he was given another chance. He tagged once again with Michaels against La Resistance in 2005, and then worked a thrilling singles match against Kurt Angle shortly before WrestleMania 21. His promising showing was enough to land him another contract. It should have been one of the great, feel-good stories in wrestling history. It was not to be. Jannetty pulled a Jannetty and was let go. He was then hired and subsequently fired two more times within the next couple years. You can't get mad at Vince McMahon for wanting Jannetty to get his act together and succeed, but you also can't help but wonder if he was expecting a different outcome every single time he re-hired him.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
