WWE: 10 Superstars You Won't Believe Vince McMahon Gave Contracts To

4. Nathan Jones

Most men and women who make it in the WWE have spent years perfecting their craft. It's usually a life long love affair that takes an incredible amount of dedication, sacrifice and patience. Nathan Jones spent less than two years in the business before finding employment. Unlike most, he didn't even start training for the sport until his early 30s. Perhaps he would have begun sooner, had he not spent seven years in prison. This lack of ability clearly showed, as Jones was downright awful in the ring. He was clumsy, and looked completely lost at what to do next in a match. This didn't deter WWE from giving him a huge push. For weeks, we were shown scary vignettes from inside of a prison about a large psychopath about to invade SmackDown. These promos were awesome, and made Jones seem like a big deal. What was he going to do when he debut? Fans could only wonder. It turned out to be a whole lot of nothing, that's what. Instead of joining the company as a heel like the promos implied, he was horribly miscast cast as a babyface. For reasons never quite explained, The Undertaker saw something in him, and took him under his wing. The two were scheduled to battle A-Train and The Big Show at WrestleMania 19 before Jones was suddenly pulled from the match. WWE ended up filming a backstage attack earlier in the show to keep him out of the ring, and left Undertaker to go solo. Still, it was the biggest moment of Jones' wrestling career. He only had five televised singles matches in his entire WWE tenure before deciding that the travel was too much for him. His run in WWE is probably another case of the company hiring a wrestler solely for their looks that Vince McMahon must have come to regret. If only he'd learn his lesson.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
