WWE: 10 Superstars Who Wrestled As Jobbers Before Later Fame

10. Al Snow

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyyGGZ67yFw Debuting in the mid 1980s, Al Sarven became one of the best known workers on the independent circuit, garnering fame as a great worker who had natural athletic ability and a boatload of charisma. He had minor success in the early days of Extreme Championship Wrestling and then went on to Jim Cornette's Smoky Mountain Wrestling where he captured the tag titles with Unabomber, later known as Kane. Unfortunately, when he was signed to the World Wrestling Federation, Sarven's career became a series of lame gimmicks and opening match jobs. Wrestling under the name Avatar, Sarven would carry a mask to the ring and then put it on his head before the match began. He then moved on to a "ninja assassin" gimmick with the name Shinobi and lost to Shawn Michaels on Monday Night Raw. To complete the loser gimmick hat trick, Sarven was then placed with Marty Jannetty and repackaged as the New Rockers. Just a word about tag teams: Anytime a partner is replaced and the team has the word "New" put in front of it, the team is destined to suck. Sure enough, Sarven's time as Leif Cassidy (a play on two teen idols) in the New Rockers was terrible and he became a weekly jobber once the team broke up. It wasn't until Sarven returned in ECW in 1997 that he finally found the winning formula. Upset at his progression up the card, Al Snow asked Cactus Jack how he could get further in the business. When Cactus replied "you have to get a little head" (meaning having sex with the bookers), Snow took the phrase literally and started carrying a mannequin head to the ring with him. Snow went on to return to the WWF and win multiple tag team and hardcore titles, coming quite a long way from jobbing to the 123 Kid on Saturday morning Superstars.
