WWE: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Big E Langston

6. Intercontinental Championship And Race

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAjXc3EZbyc Currently, Big E Langston is the 142nd WWE Intercontinental Champion. As I'm sure many of you know, back in the good old days the Intercontinental Championship was a gateway to the World Heavyweight Championship. Just look at who some of the former Intercontinental Champions were: The Rock, Austin, Edge, Randy Orton, Jericho, etc. Nowadays, unfortunately, the title doesn't mean too much beyond a show of faith, on behalf of the WWE, in the title holder. The last three title holders were The Miz, Wade Barrett, and Curtis Axel. Three men whose careers are thus far disappointing (especially Curtis Axel who is particularly garbagio). But Big E. seems to have brought some credibility to the Intercontinental title. He has the look of a champion and has had some pretty good title defenses (though far too few if you ask me). However, it's pretty surprising that Big E. is one of only a handful of African American Intercontinental champions. Ahmed Johnson, Kofi Kingston, The Godfather, D'Lo Brown, and Shelton Benjamin are the only other African American Intercontinental champions I came across. A bit shocking, and then again, not so shocking considering general prejudices and WWE's doubts in African American drawing power.
