6. The Blue Blazer
After success wrestling in Japan, and thanks to the working relationship between the former WWF and Smokey Mountain Wrestling, Owen Hart debuted in the WWF in 1988. Instead of going by his real name and being acknowledged as Bret "Hit Man" Hart's little brother, Owen was given a superhero gimmick and became known as The Blue Blazer. With emphasis placed on his acrobatic skills in the ring, The Blue Blazer gimmick fit into the cartoonish landscape of over-the-top Superstars. Hart went on to eventually ditch the cape and mask and go by the persona he was best known for, having a memorable feud with his brother and going on to be named The King of the Ring as well as joining The Hart Foundation. In 1999, The Blue Blazer returned, this time as a heel persona, with Owen claiming it was not him under the mask (often having tag partner Jeff Jarrett or even former tag partner Koko B. Ware stand in for him in the Blazer's garb). Tragically, Owen lost his life while in his Blue Blazer gimmick during the Over the Edge Pay-Per-View in 1999, falling from the rafters during an elaborate entrance for an Intercontinental Championship Match with The Godfather.
