WWE: 10 Times Triple H Consciously Didn't Do What Was "Best For Business"

3. HHH Ends The Summer Of Punk With A Pedigree

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hcKjU2Y3YI In July of 2011, CM Punk began his ascent to tippy-top guy with the Summer of Punk storyline that actually drew me back into reviewing RAW again after 5 years away from it. After winning the WWE title from Cena and then leaving for a week, Punk returned to set up a "unification" match with Cena at Summerslam, with HHH refereeing. The end result was Kevin Nash returning to cost Punk the belt to Alberto Del Rio (because they hadn't packed enough gaga into the match as it was, I guess) and apparently setting up a Punk-Nash feud for some reason. However, Nash had medical issues that would force him to not job on PPV (I'm as shocked as you) and so we got a shoehorned Punk-HHH feud for some reason. This was leading to basically nothing, as HHH was mired in a boring storyline where he was COO of the company and everyone hated him, and Punk was leading up to winning the belt for real at Survivor Series. So naturally, after verbally humiliating Punk on RAW for weeks with accusations that Punk wasn't allowed to fight back against, when they had their match at Night of Champions, HHH gave him multiple Pedigrees and pinned him to win the feud. Because, see, HHH had to stay strong for his match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania, six months after this, and Punk could afford to lose because he was getting the title anyway. Never mind that HHH could much more afford to lose, being that he was RETIRED and then was going to pushed as a Wrestlemania headliner. That would just be crazy.
