WWE: 10 Times Triple H Saw Something He Liked And Booked Himself Into It

4. CM Punk

In the summer of 2011, CM Punk cut his famous 'pipe bomb' promo and had the best WWE match in years with John Cena at Money In The Bank. It really felt like a new main event star had arrived, it was as if Punk was the new Austin 3:16. Triple H, who was inactive at the time, seen this and couldn't resist implicating himself in Punk's success. The storyline reason for the Punk vs Triple H 2011 feud? Because Kevin Nash had read a Triple H text message wrong and cost Punk the title at SummerSlam. To say it was weak booking was an understatement. Just when Punk was on the ascendency in WWE, he was lumbered in a face vs face match with Triple H. The logic was non-existent. This is Triple H at his worse. As a smart guy he must have known there was no real compelling reason for the Punk match. It would have been much better played out at a later date with Hunter as a heel authority figure trying to stop Punk's momentum. That would have been great. Instead Hunter rushed to get in on Punk's 2011 fame and we ended up with a lame feud that hurt Punk's perception.
