WWE: 10 Worst Gimmicks Of All Time

1. Vince McMahon; ECW Champion And Royal Rumble 99' Winner

430px Vince As Ecw Champ The boss. The Corporation. The main man. Vin-O-Mac. OK, well maybe that last one was used more for his son, who actually proved that he could take a fall every now and then. When Vince McMahon first inherited the WWWF from his own father he knew that there were a few things you could take for granted. It's probably hard to imagine that this would mean he'd one day have to go into the ring himself and defeat a professionally trained superstar. Vince McMahon is featured in the No 1 spot on this list, primarily, because he won the 1999 Royal Rumble. In his first "professional" WWE match the owner of the company managed to survive 29 other opponents (well, just one really, since both he and Stone Cold Steve Austin spent the majority of the match outside the ring) in order to dillute the very fabric of the company. This was the first time that such an obvious gimmick had been used to effect the result of a PPV event (ignoring Survivor Series 97 of course) - the fans knew there was no way that McMahon would ever be the headline at Wrestlemania XV - but they were certainly scared by the prospect. If that wasn't good enough, of course, the WWE did it again - attacking the name of ECW (which it had legally aquired anyway) by making Vince the Federation's Champion. McMahon won the Championship at Backlash 2007 - pinning Bobby Lashley in a Handicap match - and then having Lashley win the title back in a Street Fight match later that year. Of course, this was all done for PPV ratings, with ECW already failing in the charts. But McMahon's desperate gimmick to award himself a title once proudly held by the likes of Tommy Dreamer, Sabu, Christian and Jimmy Snuka meant that for the second time, through fakery, he had destroyed a longstanding heritage. Nothing ever changes then.
