WWE: 12 Most Controversial WrestleMania Moments Ever

4. Goldberg & Brock Lesnar Sleepwalk Through Their Final Fights - WrestleMania XX

What was billed a fitting full-stop for two closing WWE careers ended up being a notorious disappointment as neither Lesnar, who was leaving to take up American football, and Goldberg who wouldn't be renewing his contract, showed anything like the commitment demanded of them. That defied early expectations, as it was deemed a potentially massive bout, given the status of both fighters, but it took almost three minutes for anything like a real lock-up, despite guest referee Steve Austin's best efforts. The crowd duly responded with heat, openly mocking the pair, jeering about selling out and shouting for both Austin and Hulk Hogan, partly in response to the stars' departures, and partly thanks to their lack of effort. It was a truly disappointing match, and a terrible end to both careers (albeit temporarily for Lesnar,) which brought controversial response from the audience.
