WWE: 12 Employees Turned Whistleblowers

4. Kamala

The story of the man who once frightened millions of fans as Kamala "The Ugandan Giant" is one of tragedy and sorrow. James Harris was rechristened Kamala by Jerry Lawler and Jerry Jarrett while working in the Memphis territory. He toured successfully all over the world, drawing big money as a menacing heel against superstars like Hulk Hogan, Magnum TA and the Von Erichs. Recently stricken with severe health problems and the amputation of both legs, Kamala has spoken out about his time in wrestling, primarily the fact that he was terribly underpaid for his position on the card and for the racism he faced while working in the business. In an interview with Voice of Choice Bruce Wirt and Nemar Wells, regarding racism Harris said "In Summerslam 92, I had one of my biggest matches against the Undertaker. He made a half million dollars and I made 13 (thousand). There was a lot of racism in the WWE. I remember so many times when I was there, I would get there early and find me a nice dressing room; the agents would (kick me out and) let (the white stars) have the dressing room. When I went out to the ring, I was a superstar; backstage I was a nothing." He also had plenty of harsh words for Vince McMahon, stating "Vince McMahon has certain people that he will pay. If you get along with Vince, do him all kind of sexual favors, then you'll get along good with him. But if you just (do your job and) mind your own business, be there on time, then he seems to have less respect for you. There was a lot of men with men in those days and even men with boys. I know a lot of guys that (failed drug tests) and it was documented that they passed, because they were top guys and I know what they did." Those are pretty heavy accusations. It's a shame that Harris is on the outs with the company because if there's anyone who could use a legends contract and the royalties that come along with it, not to mention a much-deserved induction into the WWE Hall of Fame, it's Kamala. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RpDxcBQ4MY
