WWE: 12 Great Wrestlers Totally Screwed By Comedy Gimmicks
7. Santino
Santino has had a nice run as a comedy character, often being put in storyline with beautiful women, but he didn't become a wrestler to look like a hormonal teenager with bad balance and a thing for snakes. Before he was brought up to the main roster, Santino was actually doing good work in WWE developmental. He was no Daniel Bryan, but he had a lot of potential. His big debut came in the form of a storyline every little boy, and many grown men, have dreamt about. They get called from the crowd to step in for someone else and end up winning whatever is on the line. It's the kind of story that gives people hope. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUWZiYRRqgU Once it became evident he wasn't getting over as a regular babyface he was turned into a bumbling idiot who often won by sheer luck or with the help of Beth Phoenix. He may be popular with the young kids, but many of the older fans cringe when Santino comes out. He has all the right tools to be good, but WWE would rather have him be funny than good. Santino has embraced the gimmick and done his best to make it work and that has to be commended. A lot of people get saddled with a gimmick they don't like and they stop trying. Santino took it and ran with it.
