WWE: 13 Contracts Expiring In The Next Year

7. Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio is at an unusual point in his career. For whatever reason, he is increasingly getting the 'John Cena Reaction', loud boos despite being a babyface. Perhaps it's his ring style which is so watered down at this point he is like a different guy from his peak 2002-2007 years. The reason for this is the chronic injury problems Mysterio suffers, his knees particularly being in terrible condition (hence no more west coast pop). His contract is expiring next year, his last deal done in 2012 for 3 years. However, this report states in March 2013 that Mysterio had just a year left (citing the Wrestling Observer). If that's the case, then Mysterio could be gone just after Wrestlemania 30. At this point, WWE must be mulling over ridding themselves of Rey. Despite raking in merchandise sales, WWE are concerned that the star has a lucrative downside guarantee, earning big bucks despite being out injured for long spells. He has became a liability - it it isn't an injury it's a suspension. The company have struggled to get consistent work from the master of the 619. Mysterio is arguably the most beat up guy on the roster after wrestling a dangerous style for over 2 decades ... it looks high time to hang the boots and knee braces up. Verdict: Retirement and a legends deal
