WWE: 13 Hilariously Bad Gimmick Matches

12. The Blindfold Match

The premise behind the Blindfold Match is as simple as it is ludicrous: two wrestlers put blindfolds over their heads and search for each other in the ring. Instead of a wrestling match, it becomes "You're Getting Warmer, You're Getting Colder" with men in spandex. Sometimes the audience would help them out by pointing in a direction, and based on the audience reaction, would either throw a wild punch or more in a different direction. This would lead to a such funny moments as a wrestler mistaking the referee for their opponent (of course,) arguing with a turnbuckle pad, and even tripping over the ropes not knowing where they're standing. It sounds innocent enough, but the problem with this kind of match is that it drags on and on; after a few minutes the comedy is exhausted, and the fans wind up getting bored. There's no high flying moves, no cool looking slams and suplexes, and by the time one guy has a hold of the other, you're praying that a three count gets made. A few of the more "memorable" Blindfold Matches are Jake Roberts vs. Rick Martel, Triple H vs. D'Lo Brown, Santino Marella vs. Drew McIntyre, and Chavo Guerrero vs. Hornswoggle. As you can see, the Blindfold Match has devolved over the years into a comedy of errors with a time wasting punchline.
