WWE: 13 Worst Ever Tag Team Gimmicks In Wrestling History
4. Billy And Chuck
Billy Gunn is one of the most successful tag team wrestlers in WWE history, being a part of the Smoking Gunns as well as the New Age Outlaws, and Chuck Palumbo was a hot prospect in the WWE, having come through WCW PowerPlant training system. At 6'3 and 6'6 and with impressive physiques, Billy and Chuck could have been a real intimidating force, but they were destined to play flamboyant homosexuals, and that didn't exactly go down too well. WWE had a genuinely interesting story line, one that might have alienated some of their young male fan base, but it was something we'd not seen before. Unfortunately rather than portraying a positive gay role model Billy and Chuck were gay caricatures, taking the most stereotypical views of homosexuality and making them part of the performance. Nothing typified this more than the decision to include a flamboyant stylist as their manager, thus Billy and Chuck were united with Rico Constantine. However the WWE had decided to use the gimmick of the wrestlers being a homosexual couple, and it was a brave move. They even worked with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, commonly known as GLAAD, to make sure the story received wide spread media attention, but then, alas the WWE backed out of their brave move, and decided to have the character declare that they were in fact heterosexual, against all logic. GLAAD were not impressed with the decision, stating "The WWE lied to us two months ago when they promised that Billy and Chuck would come out and wed on the air." Chuck was repackaged as part of the Full Blooded Italians, while Billy returned to his Mr. Ass gimmick, which probably now sounded significantly different to the WWE fans.
