Randy Orton is the Viper: he is the Apex Predator and for the past eight years or so has been one of the most prolific main eventers the WWE has seen. His athleticism is something to behold (he still probably has the most amazing dropkick in the industry at the moment), he can make complex ring work seem easy and his move set is perfectly equated for being the worst heel in the game. Add to that the fact that he is third generation superstar and one could see why the WWE have basically rolled the red carpet out to the promised land. The only trouble is that Randy Orton is boring on the mic. The interesting thing is that Orton as a heel is able to get by just fine despite this. Most heels need to be good on the mic to drive the angle forward, but Orton's go-to heel persona is usually a disturbed individual who's actions speak louder than words. His move set and ring psychology are brilliant at conveying this, showing the sadistic way he dissects opponents. The fact is the WWE should not have him talking more, but actually talking less. For Randy Orton talks in a monotone that is expressionless. It can at times be conveyed as arrogance, but in an industry where so many heels convey arrogance better (CM Punk, Chris Jericho, Triple H, etc.) it is only average. Orton also cannot do long promos - something the WWE have acknowledged by the fact that whenever he is in the ring with a mic, it is with another wrestler or more to draw the attention away from the champion - an act that does little to legitimise him as a heel. Whenever he talks at the moment, it doesn't do anything to help convey the fact that he is actually a sick, twisted and dangerous opponent. What does make him look dangerous is when he DDTs people from the top rope, or kisses Stephanie McMahon after RKOing her. If the WWE are serious about having Orton as a top heel, then they should be looking towards this direction once again.
