7. Vs. Alberto Del Rio (Night Of Champions; September 16, 2012)
WWE.comSheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio will go down as one of the most unnecessary, longest running rivalries in WWE history. They first crossed paths one night removed from WrestleMania 28 when Del Rio returned to confront Sheamus, announcing his intentions to be world champion. This triggered a feud that would last a whopping five months on the SmackDown brand. After their matches at Over the Limit and No Way Out were delayed, they finally faced off at Money in the Bank with the World Heavyweight Championship up for grabs where Sheamus emerged victorious. In a rematch the next month, Sheamus utilized dirty tactics against Del Rio bu still successfully retained his title. By this point, fans saw no reason for the feud to continue. Their prior two pay-per-view encounters were good, but there was no need for any more rematches between the two. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MY7S09vebZg Nonetheless, WWE opted to continue the rivalry, scheduling one last match between them at Night of Champions. This was by far their best bout today because not only was the action exciting but they told a story. Del Rio was desperate to become champion and despite resorting to desperate measures at several points in the contest, Sheamus still walked out with his title in tow. As good as this match was, fans still have no desire to see them face each other any time soon, if ever again. We've seen enough matches from them to last a lifetime.
