Netflix has announced that Ronda Rousey will make a sensational return to MMA at the first Most Valuable Promotions event hosted on the global subscription service. Former WWE star Ronda goes up against Gina Carano on the 16 May card. Tickets go on sale from 5 March.

That same day, Rousey and Carano will come face to face as part of a press conference in Los Angeles.

This will mark Ronda's first MMA fight since losing via TKO to Amanda Nunes at UFC 207 on 30 December 2016. Currently, Rousey has a 12-2 win-loss record. Meanwhile, Carano's record stands at 7-1. They've never fought before, so this is a first time ever battle. That's something Netflix are using as a dangling carrot for fight fans who want to see how Ronda will fare almost a decade on from her last scrap.

Of course, Rousey worked multiple spells for WWE between 2018-2023. Initially, it seemed like she'd be a fab fit for pro wrestling, but Ronda routinely butted heads with fans and never seemed to grasp the concept of being booed. By the time 2023's exit rolled around, she was no great loss to the company's lineup.

Rousey vs. Carano will take place over 5 rounds lasting 5 minutes each. They'll compete under standard MMA rules, so UFC fans won't have to contend with any noticeable tweaks. Netflix say they're thrilled to move into mixed martial arts after producing several boxing clashes on the service.

This MMA event will be available to all subscribers regardless of plan, so nobody interested in watching needs to upgrade their Netflix sub.
