WWE 1998 PPVs From Worst To Best

3. Royal Rumble

The Good: The Royal Rumble was another show that was in danger of being a huge letdown but was saved by two excellent matches: the Rumble itself and Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker's casket match. Austin won a heated Rumble match. You could tell by the reaction of the fans that Austin was the guy going forward. HBK and The Dead Man had the best casket match ever, which was only marred by the serious injury Shawn suffered when he took an awkward backdrop on the casket. Michaels didn't wrestle again until WrestleMania in March and then took another four years off. Many thought he was finished but we all know how that story turned out... The Bad: The New Age Outlaws and the LOD had a shocker. The LOD's 1998 run is one of the most baffling in company history: they weren't anywhere near as over as they had been in the past and they sucked in the ring, yet Vince persisted with them. TAFKA Goldust and Vader had an awful match. The Rest: Mick Foley entered the Rumble three times, as alter-egos Dude Love, Cactus Jack and Mankind. The WWF presented a Minis match with midget luchadors from Mexico. It was memorable only for Jerry Lawler's insufferable short jokes and the fact that Sunny botched a leapfrog on the 3ft7in Max Mini.
