WWE: 20 Best Moments in WWE Raw History

15. Kane Unmasks (June 23rd 2003)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqUZ6-jD2KU In reality, this didn€™t turn out to be THAT great a moment, but in terms of redefining someone€™s character, it was huge for Kane. Ever since his debut in 1997, we heard about his origins. Kane was introduced as the brother of the Undertaker, who had supposedly perished a house fire when the two were children. From his debut at Badd Blood, Kane was never seen without his mask that we were told he wore to hide horrific burns he suffered in the childhood fire. Fast forward to 2003 and Kane is a fan favourite, tag teaming with Rob Van Dam. Triple H offered the Big Red Machine a spot in Evolution but Co-General Manager Steve Austin told Kane not to do it and offered him a World Title shot if he didn€™t. In the end up, Eric Bischoff added the stipulation that if Kane lost the title match, he would be forced to unmask. After losing the mask, Kane finally removed his mask to reveal that his hair was a part of his mask and not his head, and that his face was scorched (with mascara.) He immediately turned heel on RVD and embarked in a feud against Shane McMahon soon after. Although it was a huge moment that fans had been waiting for a long time, it ended up being quite disappointing. Eventually we found out that Kane was never burned at all, and that his burns were merely psychological scars rather than real ones. Still, seeing Kane finally unmask was a payoff that fans had been waiting for, for 6 years, and one that not many are likely to forget.
