WWE: 20 Best PPVs Of All Time

18. SummerSlam 1998

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0iwHcGY2ro Highlights: Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker, Triple H vs. The Rock, Val Venis vs. D-Lo Brown This was another show in Madison Square Garden and should be remembered as a balanced show that came at a time when the WWE Attitude Era was in full swing. What's interesting about those shows in 1998 and 1999 are that there were not truly great shows all the time. A lot of them featured too many matches that were short, so they weren't that great. SummerSlam 1998 is an outstanding show because it had eight matches that were spaced out perfectly. The opening match between D-Lo Brown and Val Venis was given 16 minutes. You don't see matches like that too often between midcarders who are not considered future main eventers. They were given a chance to succeed and they did. The best match was an excellent ladder match for the IC Title between Triple H and The Rock. It took place at a time when they were stars on the rise who hadn't reached that level. This match showed they had tremendous chemistry, which carried over to a couple of years later when they were wrestling in main events all the time. Neither guy was a high flier, but they made the ladder match work for them. It was main evented by Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker. At the time, they were both babyfaces. Undertaker ended up as a heel soon after, mainly because he lost. It wasn't an all-time classic great match, but it was very good and a satisfying ending to a strong show. Other memorable matches saw Sable teaming up with Edge, Mick Foley getting destroyed in a Dumpster Match against the New Age Outlaws and Jeff Jarrett losing his hair after a loss to X-Pac. From top to bottom, it was a very entertaining show.
