WWE: 20 Best PPVs Of All Time

14. SummerSlam 2001

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_QkF_bVYK0 Highlights: Kurt Angle vs. Steve Austin, The Rock vs. Booker T, Rob Van Dam vs. Jeff Hardy The 2001 version of SummerSlam followed the Invasion PPV in July, which was one of the most matched PPVs ever that wasn't one of the "big four" that WWE has every year. Of the two shows, SummerSlam was better. Best match honors goes to Angle vs. Austin, which was an incredibly fast paced stand up brawl for the most part. Austin was the heel WWE Champion that had a tough time putting Angle away so he kept trying to get disqualified. Angle kept going after him, which the crowd loved. The intensity in this match was unreal. There was also a Jeff Hardy vs. Rob Van Dam ladder match that featured a lot of great high flying moves featuring two guys that were the best at it. This was when RVD just came into WWE, so he was really fresh. Hardy was starting to break out as a singles wrestler too. Main event was The Rock beating Booker T to win the WCW World Title. It didn't help the invasion that they lost the WCW Title to a WWE guy so quickly. Still a good match that sent the crowd home happy. Everything else was pretty good like the opener that saw Edge win the IC Title over Lance Storm and Jericho over Rhyno was enjoyable as well. It's another one of those shows that has that one standout match (Austin/Angle), plus a lot of balance the rest of the way.
