WWE: 20 Changes That MUST Happen On The Road From WrestleMania 30
15. Controversy Creates Cash
Eric Bischoff's famous mantra, "controversy creates cash" is something Vince McMahon would know all too well, after all he has rubberstamped some of the most controversial storylines in the history of professional wrestling. However, in its current PG form, the WWE has lost its controversial edge and with it, its excitement. There was a time when storylines revolved around controversial topics from vacated titles and double count outs to kidnapping and ransoms. While many would not necessarily wish a return to the inappropriate necrophilia or incest storylines of the Attitude Era, a large cross section of fans would be better entertained by controversial storylines, on air surprises and live news bulletins. A sense of chaos, that anything can happen at any given moment, results from controversy. Wrestling fans are best entertained by a wrestling promotion that is, as Bischoff once said, 'chock full of surprises!' If the WWE wishes to entice older fans back to its television shows and continue to entertain current fans into sticking with the WWE, then change must happen to the 'polished' running order of Monday Night RAW, Smackdown! and every other WWE televised event. Things must happen that are unpredictable, edgy and most obviously controversial if the WWE wishes to change from its cuurent course of progressive stagnation.
