WWE 2001 PPVs From Worst To Best

11. King Of The Ring

The Good: The show was stolen by Shane McMahon and Kurt Angle (wrestling in his third match of the evening), who had a brutal, bloody and compelling street fight. Right behind it was the triple threat WWE Championship match between Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Steve Austin. Although you have to question the psychology of the babyfaces outnumbering the heel, the booking team were in a bind due to the injury suffered by Triple H. The original plan for KOTR was to have Triple H take on Jericho and Benoit square off with Austin. The KOTR semis and final, while not incredible, served their purpose. Edge was a great choice for winner: you just knew this guy was going to be a star. The Bad: If you don't believe people when they talk about The Undertaker's selfishness during this period, go back and watch his destruction job of Diamond Dallas Page here. The Dead Man completely no-sold everything DDP threw at him and then just beat the s*** out of him. Things would (incredibly) get worse for Page in the company... The Rest: When the night was over, many of the wrestlers must have been asking themselves: was it all worth it? Angle, Shane and Austin all suffered injuries that would keep them out of action for a while. For Benoit, this was the straw that broke the camel's back (or wolverine's neck, if you will): he required major surgery immediately after this event, pinning him to the sidelines for a year.
