WWE 2004 PPVs From Worst To Best

2. Backlash

The Good: What a good wrestling show this was. Best match of the night was a toss-up between Shawn Michaels/Chris Benoit/Triple World Title rematch from WrestleMania or the brutal Mick Foley versus Randy Orton street fight. Mick put in his best performance in YEARS here and Randy kept up with him and took his fair share of punishment, too. That match legitimised Orton in the eyes of the fans, as did Benoit beating Triple H and Shawn Michaels for the second time in a month. It's hard to do triple threat matches well, but the Rabid Wolverine, Heartbreak Kid and Cerebral Assassin were masters at them. Also worth watching on the undercard are Shelton Benjamin's opener against Ric Flair and Chris Jericho taking on Christian and Trish Stratus in a handicap match. The Bad: Edge's comeback match against Kane was a letdown. Edge returned from neck surgery with the same look, wrestling style and character, which did nothing for him. Jonathan Coachman versus Tajiri is as good as it sounds (not very) and Lita versus Victoria was a shambles. The Rest: Ric Flair managed to annoy Foley and many in WWE management when he buried Foley and his abilities during a series of pre-PPV interviews instead of, you know, promoting Foley and the match. Flair said regarding Foley that 'he's not a great wrestler by any means. He's a stunt man. He couldn't have even got started when I started in the business' among other things.
