The in-ring action is one component of pro wrestling that makes it great, but without any stories to go along with the matches, the fans don't have any reason to invest in what they're watching. Feuds have been one the basics of wrestling for ages and the strategy of implementing storylines in the programming exists in the virtual world of WWE video games as well.

While rivalries can begin and end on a whim in WWE Universe Mode, General Manager Mode offers a variety of interesting and fundamental feuds to choose from. From "Returning Legend" to "Loser Must Leave the Brand," they're all storylines that could realistically occur, and it gives you an idea of what the rivalry will be about.

Not only that, but you can also set a deadline for when you want a rivalry to end. For example, if you want John Cena vs. Kane to conclude at SummerSlam, it will score more stars the longer it goes (as long as you keep them in the same match each week). It's a simple formula that should have never been done away with in the first place.
