When AJ Styles came to WWE, he wasn't supposed to be a major player - he was simply meant to be another talented midcarder. His performances were so incredible, though, and his reactions (even in his debut match) were so loud, that the company put him in a feud with John Cena and had him win the WWE Championship.

Still, it's clear that Styles isn't the number one man in the company - the fact that he won't be in a main-event match at WrestleMania proves that. If WWE had their way, Styles probably wouldn't be on the cover of WWE 2K18 - but it's not up to them, it's up to 2K Sports.

Case in point - when WWE '13 was coming out, CM Punk was on the cover. After leaving WWE, though, Punk revealed that THQ had chosen him for the spot despite WWE's objections. The video game company refused to put politics over popularity, and it could happen again.
